Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis from Pancreatic Cancer Associated With Germline BRCA Mutations: Case Reports and Review of the Literature
نویسندگان
چکیده
Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis from pancreatic cancer is a rare finding thought to occur late in the natural history of the disease. Here we present two cases of leptomeningeal carcinomatosis from BRCA mutation-associated pancreatic cancer including one patient in whom it developed during treatment with a PARP-inhibitor. We review the literature and discuss the possibility that BRCA-associated pancreatic cancer may have a natural history that is distinct from sporadic cases. BRCA and pancreatic cancer: selection of chemotherapy.
Germline mutations in BRCA genes are associated with increased risk of pancreatic cancer. There are pre clinical data which suggests that DNA cross linking agents should be used in pancreatic cancer patients with BRCA mutations. This review is an update from the 2012 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium regarding recent developments in the treatment of...
متن کاملLeptomeningeal carcinomatosis and bilateral internal auditory canal metastases from ovarian carcinoma
Ovarian cancer, a leading cause of death in women, typically spreads locally and rarely metastasizes to the brain or seeds the leptomeninges. We present a case of a 62-year-old woman with a history of treated ovarian cell carcinoma who developed bilateral sensorineural deafness and right-sided facial weakness and on imaging was found to have bilateral internal auditory canal (IAC) masses and le...
متن کاملMetronomic Capecitabine Effectively Blocks Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis From Breast Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review
BACKGROUND Meningeal carcinomatosis is a rare complication in breast cancer patients. At present, there are no defined guidelines for its management. The efficacy of systemic treatment seems to depend on its ability to cross the blood-brain-barrier and its interaction with tumor vasculature. Metronomic chemotherapy is a known modality of drug administration able to inhibit tumor angiogenesis. C...
متن کاملFrameshift Mutations (Deletion at Codon 1309 and Codon 849) in the APC Gene in Iranian FAP Patients: a Case Series and Review Of The literature
Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is responsible for <1% of colorectal cancer (CRC) cases and is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. Patients generally present hundreds to thousands of adenomas and develop colorectal cancer by age 35- 40 if left untreated. Here we report four patients with germline frameshift mutation (small deletion) at exon 15 of adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) tumo...
متن کاملLeptomeningeal Carcinomatosis in Gastric Cancer: A Therapeutical Challenge
Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis (LC) is a rare and mainly secondary site of metastasis in solid tumors. In gastric cancer (GC), it is associated with a devastating prognosis, lacking an efficient and standardized treatment approach. We report a case of primary manifestation of LC due to metastatic GC with rapid deterioration and refractory course to conventional and intrathecal chemotherapy. We r...
